So Dear to Me...

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Yesterday's post brought up my "Special Things" hoarding tendency again, and writing about it became the catalyst for this post today. These images are of myself and my baby girl when she was not quite 4 months old... they were taken by my incredible best friend Katie when Lucy and I were in Utah for my sister's wedding

It was a time in my life I am not eager to ever repeat. My sweet, beautiful, long-wished-for baby girl was still in the throes of colic, and NOTHING made her truly happy. I was sleep-deprived. I was still in shock at the transition from one to two kids. I was acting as a full photographer for a wedding AND a single parent to two kids. I had post-partum depression I didn't even know about yet.

And yet.

This was also a tender time. Because of my baby's temperament, I was far more willing to let her sleep in my arms rather than "train" her to a schedule or a bed. And though she was mostly miserable when she was awake, she DID sleep. And it was during those moments when she slept, and my arms were full of nothing but baby, and I couldn't really do much else, that I remembered to love her. To cherish her. To remember how much I wanted her.

And because of that, I truly did remember loving her so deeply, no matter what.

So...when Katie sent me these photos of me and my baby, I was moved so very much. I am always behind the camera, so these "mama moments" captured in images are rare. And truly, there is no one like Katie when it comes to timeless, heartachingly lovely photographs. How lucky I am to be on the receiving end of her talent time and again.

Her friendship--- so dear to me.

This baby girl of mine-- so dear to me.

These photos, hoarded as a private delight of mine for so long--- so dear to me.

I'm pleased to finally share them here... My baby and me (Teeny little creature that she was...):

(Lucy's helping me blog this...She's really no good at the technical stuff, but she sure likes me to scroll through the photos so she can laugh at the baby. Ha! I love this life. ♥)

  3. You know, I really, really didn't mind helping you out during that crazy weekend... I hope that looking back you can really believe me and that I treasured your little girl as much as an aunt can (and I still do).

    Do you believe me yet?
