This is the man I married. This is Joe. He is 6 days away from being 31. He is 6' tall. He is passionate about books, movies, soccer, chocolate, most things French, his family, his faith...
He is an amazingly giving husband and father--- more selfless than I've ever been in my life.
He is handsome. A bit introverted. Smart. And a big ol' kid.
And he has been in limbo for a looooooooong time now-- first, with switching from nursing school to his French degree. Then with his quest for grad school and subsequent rejections. And lately, with an elusive job he was offered at the beginning of the summer, but that has taken all summer to solidify into an ACTUAL JOB--- one we can announce and talk about and plan around.
But after all that, I am deeply proud to announce, finally, that my sweet amazing husband is now on the faculty of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, as an academic mentor for the students on the College of Arts and Sciences. My amazing husband is FINALLY in a place he feels his worth and can carry with him with pride, and I am INCREDIBLY happy happy happy for him. happy for me, of course-- the limbo SUUUUCKED for both of us--- But mostly happy for him. He needed this. His heart, his PRIDE needed this.
This cool, smart, hard-working man of mine. He is pretty much the ideal guy, ya know?
Worthy of a HECKUVA celebration. A HUGE something to celebrate his graduation in the spring, and now his faculty job this fall. We needed to go BIG. HUGE. And, well.... we got this idea. See, he loves his French degree--- the books and the philosophy and the food and all things French (well, except for most of the actual people. Kidding. Kind of.)... and we wanted to celebrate that. So, he decided to get as French as he could:
The Frenchiest of outfits, the Frenchiest of sour expressions and hand gestures.... The true French Scholar.
But.
Well...
That didn't seem HUGE enough, ya know?
So we just went all the way. And the REAL fun began. Sit back. Get ready. This is the man I married:
Yeah. This is the man I married. One who let me buy him a boat-necked snug striped shirt and paint him all up with makeup, and TAKE HIM IN PUBLIC LIKE THIS. Oh yeah--- we went out. I had more than just backdrop photos in mind. *mua-hahahaha!* (evil laugh)
(Noah was truly amused the whole time. I swear. No scary clown dreams as of yet.)
Happy Early Birthday!

Congratulations on so many levels. This post is fabulous, your love for your husband and his love for you completely shines through. (yes, I would have to say having a man willing to 1) put on a tight stripped shirt; 2) let you photograph him in said tight stripped shirt; 3) add face paint; 4) not only let you photograph him in said tight stripped shirt and face paint, but cooperatively so (supper kudos to your husband); and 5) go out in public and let you photograph him is complete and absolute LOVE. .... in short - he's a keeper.) I am so happy for both of you for his new job. Cool!
